Etiology and Risk Factors

A childhood or family history of atopy is common, including AD, allergies, asthma, food allergies, and/or skin disease.

Patients who are genetically susceptible to AD are genetically susceptible to other atopic conditions.

Environmental triggers include infections, heat, dry climate (lack of humidity), detergents / soaps, abrasive clothing, chemicals, smoke, and stress.
